How to Reset a Toyota Maintenance Oil Change Light

Toyota cars and trucks come with a handy maintenance reminder indicator. This indicator appears on the dashboard and lets you know when it's time to change the oil. The light that appears reads "Main. Required." Once you change the Toyota's oil, reset the maintenance required/oil change light to turn it off. The procedure differs slightly among Toyota vehicles.

Instructions

  1. Resetting the Maintenance/Oil Change Light in the Camry and Corolla

      Start the Corolla or Camry's engine. Push the trip odometer button until the mileage display shows "Trip A."

      Turn the engine off. Push and hold the trip odometer button. While holding it, turn the ignition to "On."

    • 3

      Release the trip odometer button when the mileage shows "000000." This confirms the light is reset. Turn the ignition off.

    Resetting the Maintenance/Oil Change Light in the Avalon

      Turn the ignition on. Push the trip odometer button until the vehicle mileage reading shows in the odometer.

      Turn the ignition off. Push and hold the trip odometer button.

      Turn the ignition back on while holding the trip odometer button. Release the button when you see "000000."

    Resetting the Maintenance/Oil Change Light in the Tundra

      Turn the Tundra's ignition on. Push the trip odometer button several times until "Trip A" appears on the odometer.

      Turn off the ignition. Press and hold the trip odometer button.

    • 3

      Turn the ignition on while holding the trip odometer button. Release the button when you see "Main. Required Reset." On some Tundra models, you will see "000000" instead.
