How to Replace a 1998 Toyota Corolla Headlight Bulb

There are many 1998 Toyota Corollas still on the road today. Although the car may not have much resale value, it has proven to be dependable with routine maintenance. One of the simpler maintenance tasks is replacing the headlight bulbs in a Toyota Corolla. This is a job you can do yourself and save labor costs at the same time. Replacement bulbs can be found at your nearest auto parts store or Toyota dealer.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Rubber gloves

      Open the hood and secure it with the safety latch.

      Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlight. Grasp the electrical connector socket, which has wires coming out if it, and pull straight back.

      Remove the rubber protective housing from the back of the headlight housing.

      Remove the spring clip by detaching its screw with a Phillips screwdriver.

      Pull the burned-out bulb straight out of the headlight assembly.

      Put on rubber gloves. Insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly.

      Replace the spring clamp and secure it with the Phillips screw.

      Replace the rubber housing cover carefully. It is important that it is installed correctly because it prevents water from entering the headlight assembly.

      Plug the electrical connector back into the headlight assembly.

      Test the new bulb by turning on the headlights to ensure proper installation.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are replacing the headlight on the driver's side, you may have to remove the battery so that you can access the rear of the headlight.

  • Never touch the new bulb with you bare fingers. Oil from your fingers can shorten the life of the bulb.
